Archelaus Deposed

Archelaus gets ethnarch of Judea after daddy Herod dies, but he's so brutal that both Jews AND Samaritans — who literally agree on nothing — team up to complain to Augustus. Rome fires him in 6 CE and sends him to exile in Gaul, replacing him with Roman prefects. This is why Joseph avoids Judea and settles in Nazareth instead, which is a decision that hits different when you realize it shapes where Jesus grows up.
