Egypt lowkey falls apart — pharaohs ruling half the country while priests run the other half
After the New Kingdom collapsed (~1070 BCE), Egypt entered its messy era. The 21st Dynasty pharaohs ruled from Tanis in the north while the High Priests of Amun basically ran Upper Egypt from Thebes like a parallel government. This power split is why Egypt couldn't check Israel's rise — they were too busy handling their own drama.
