A Galilean rebel said 'we're not paying Roman taxes' and started a whole movement — the OG tax protest
When Rome takes over Judea and starts taxing everybody, Judas the Galilean leads a revolt saying only God should rule Israel and paying taxes to Caesar is basically idolatry. He gets crushed, but his ideology births the Zealot movement that stays active for the next 60+ years. Gamaliel name-drops this guy in Acts 5 as an example of failed revolts, and the tax question Jesus gets asked ('should we pay Caesar?') hits way harder when you know people literally died over this.
