The Hittite Empire is gone but its successor states are lowkey running northern Syria
After the Hittite Empire collapsed (~1180 BCE), several Neo-Hittite city-states in northern Syria and southern Turkey kept the culture alive. Places like Carchemish, Hamath, and Sam'al were thriving kingdoms with monumental architecture and Luwian hieroglyphic inscriptions. These are the 'kings of the Hittites' mentioned alongside Solomon's trade partners in 1 Kings 10:29.
