An Aramean king name-drops the 'House of David' on a victory monument — first mention of David outside the Bible, full stop.
Found in pieces at Tel Dan in northern Israel during the 1990s, this ~840 BCE inscription is probably from Hazael of Aram-Damascus bragging about defeating Israelite and Judean kings. The phrase 'House of David' hit different for scholars because skeptics had been saying David was mythological. This stone said otherwise.
