Moses went up the mountain for 40 days and Israel speedran idolatry before he even got back.
Moses was up on Sinai getting the covenant and the people got impatient. They pressured Aaron into melting their gold jewelry and making a calf idol, then threw a whole party worshiping it. God was ready to end them right there but Moses interceded. When Moses came down and saw the chaos, he smashed the stone tablets and made them drink the ground-up gold. Worst timing for a party ever.
The same people who watched God do the impossible get impatient after forty days and build a golden cow. What follows is one of the rawest moments in the OT — Moses smashes God's handwriting, makes them drink their own idol, and then offers to be erased from existence if it means saving them.
Exodus"Show Me Your Glory" Is the Boldest Prayer EverIsrael just fumbled the bag with the golden calf and God says He's not going with them anymore. Moses goes full advocate mode, negotiates face-to-face with God, then hits Him with the boldest request in Scripture: "Show me your glory."
ExodusThe Glow Up on the MountainAfter the golden calf disaster, God gives Israel the ultimate second chance — new tablets, a renewed covenant, and the most iconic self-description in the entire Bible. Moses spends forty days in God's presence and comes back literally radiating, which is the hardest flex possible when you didn't even know it was happening.
