Baals

Plural of Baal — the various local manifestations of the Canaanite storm and fertility god

Definition

Each Canaanite city had its own local Baal. Israel repeatedly fell into Baal worship, provoking God's jealousy. Elijah's showdown on Mount Carmel was against the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18).
