A race of giants living in Canaan — their size terrified Israel's spies

Definition

The Anakim were exceptionally tall people living in Canaan, particularly around Hebron. Ten of the twelve spies were so terrified of them that Israel refused to enter the Promised Land (Numbers 13:33). Caleb later drove them out (Joshua 15:14).
