A foreigner living temporarily in a land not their own — a category Scripture treats with special protection
Hebrew "ger." The Old Testament repeatedly commands Israel to love the sojourner, "for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt" (Leviticus 19:34, Deuteronomy 10:19). Hebrews 11:13 expands the picture — believers themselves are sojourners and exiles on the earth, longing for a heavenly homeland.
