Satan, the devil — the spiritual adversary who opposes God's people and purposes

Definition

A reference to Satan, also called the devil, the accuser, and the adversary. Scripture portrays him as a real but defeated enemy whose power was broken at the cross. 1 John 3:8 says Jesus appeared 'to destroy the works of the devil.'
