The Amalekite king Saul spared against God's command — costing Saul his kingdom
King of the Amalekites during Saul's reign. God commanded Saul to completely destroy the Amalekites and everything they had — but Saul spared Agag and the best livestock (1 Samuel 15). The prophet Samuel confronted Saul for this disobedience — 'To obey is better than sacrifice' — then executed Agag himself. This incident cost Saul the kingdom and became the defining example of half-hearted obedience.
