A king of Judah who started well but got arrogant and lost badly
Reigned in Judah and did what was right 'but not with a whole heart' (2 Chronicles 25:2). He won a victory over Edom, then made the bizarre decision to bring back Edomite gods and worship them. Flush with confidence, he challenged Israel's King Jehoash to battle and got absolutely crushed. Ended up assassinated by his own people.

Amaziah is introduced here only in transition — as Joash's son who inherits the throne after his father's assassination, he steps into a reign that begins under the shadow of conspiracy and betrayal.
Jehoash: Copy-Paste King2 Kings 13:10-13Amaziah is the king of Judah whom Joash fought — a brief reference pointing toward a conflict covered in more detail elsewhere, mentioned here only to note it happened during Joash's reign.
Amaziah's Resume (Decent, Not Goated)2 Kings 14:1-6Amaziah begins his reign with a mixed report card — he does what is right in God's eyes but fails to remove the high places, following his father Joash's pattern of partial obedience.
Azariah's Long Reign (With a Plot Twist)2 Kings 15:1-7Amaziah is cited as the benchmark for Azariah's faith — Azariah followed God the way his father had, which was a mixed legacy of partial faithfulness rather than wholehearted devotion.
Amaziah is briefly introduced as Joash's successor — his mention at the end signals the dynasty continues, but his own future as a king who starts well and ends poorly mirrors his father's arc.
New King, First Moves2 Chronicles 25:1-4Amaziah exercises royal authority by executing his father's assassins, but demonstrates legal restraint by sparing their children — his first act as king reveals someone who knows the Law and is willing to follow it, setting up the tragic contrast with what comes later.
The Teen King Who Actually Cooked2 Chronicles 26:1-5Amaziah is cited as the model Uzziah follows in doing right before God — a positive example at this point, before the narrative pivots to Uzziah's own failure.
