The last king of Israel — the northern kingdom fell on his watch
Historically Verified
Assyrian records name him as 'Ausi' (Hoshea), saying the Assyrians installed him as king of Israel. The inscriptions are at the British Museum in London.
open_in_newThe final king of the northern kingdom of Israel (2 Kings 17). He came to power by assassinating King Pekah. He did evil but 'not as the kings of Israel who were before him.' He stopped paying tribute to Assyria and tried to ally with Egypt instead, which backfired catastrophically. Assyria besieged Samaria for three years, captured it, and deported the population. End of the northern kingdom.
