One of the three friends who survived the fiery furnace — real name Hananiah
A Jewish exile in Babylon, originally named Hananiah, renamed Shadrach by the Babylonians (Daniel 1:7). Along with Meshach and Abednego, he stood firm when everyone else bowed to Nebuchadnezzar's golden image. Their faith statement before the furnace — 'our God is able to deliver us, but even if He does not' — is one of the most quoted declarations of trust in all of Scripture. They came out of the fire without even the smell of smoke.
