A descendant of King David listed in the genealogies connecting the pre-exile kings to the post-exile leaders (1 Chronicles 3:17, Ezra 3:2). His son Zerubbabel led the first group of exiles back to Jerusalem and rebuilt the Temple. Shealtiel appears in both Matthew's and Luke's genealogies of Jesus, maintaining the Davidic royal line through the Babylonian exile.
