A fortified Canaanite royal city in northern Israel — joined Jabin of Hazors coalition crushed at the Waters of Merom
AsherAchshaph was a major Canaanite royal city in the western Galilee/Asher region, just east of Mount Carmel. Its king joined the great northern coalition led by Jabin of Hazor that Joshua crushed at the Waters of Merom (Joshua 11:1, 12:20). After the conquest, Achshaph was allotted to the tribe of Asher as one of their twenty-two cities, near Helkath and Beten (Joshua 19:25). The city appears in Egyptian sources (the Execration Texts and the campaign list of Thutmose III at Karnak), confirming it as an important Bronze Age fortified town. Generally identified with Tell Keisan in the Akko Plain of modern northern Israel.
