A town in the Judean hill country named in Joshuas catalog of Judahs inheritance
Judean Hill CountryAphekah was one of the obscure hill-country towns of Judah listed in Joshua 15:53: "And Janum, and Beth-tappuah, and Aphekah, And Humtah, and Kiriath-arba (which is Hebron), and Zior." The town appears only in this border catalog and is not to be confused with the better-known Aphek of the coastal plain or the Aphek east of the Sea of Galilee. The exact site of Aphekah is uncertain; some scholars place it at Khirbet Marajim or another tell in the rugged highlands south of Hebron, in the same district as the named Hebron-adjacent towns Beth-tappuah and Humtah.
