Atad

The Threshing Floor of Atad was the site east of the Jordan River where Joseph, his brothers, and a great Egyptian delegation of chariots and horsemen stopped on their funeral journey to bury Jacob in the cave of Machpelah at Hebron (Genesis 50:10-11). There they held a "very great and grievous lamentation" for seven days. The Canaanite inhabitants who witnessed the procession renamed the place Abel-mizraim — "mourning of Egypt" — because of the scale of the Egyptian grief.
