AegeanHistorically Verified
Modern Chios in the eastern Aegean. Continuously inhabited since prehistoric times. One of seven cities claiming to be Homer's birthplace, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its medieval Byzantine architecture.
A Greek island in the eastern Aegean off the coast of Asia Minor. Paul's homeward ship from his third missionary journey stopped at Chios overnight after leaving Mitylene (Acts 20:15). Chios was famous in antiquity for its wine and as one of seven cities that claimed to be the birthplace of Homer. The island sits between Lesbos and Samos along the standard coastal sea route.
