A Levitical town in the territory of Dan — given to the Kohathite clan as one of the Levites residential cities
DanGath-rimmon ("winepress of the pomegranate") was a town in the tribal territory of Dan, between Jehud and Bene-berak (Joshua 19:45). After the tribal allotments, it was set apart as a Levitical city for the Kohathites — the Levite clan that included the descendants of Aaron and the family responsible for the most sacred furnishings of the tabernacle (Joshua 21:24, 1 Chronicles 6:69). When the Danites later migrated north to seize Laish and rename it Dan, Gath-rimmon presumably remained an Israelite enclave in the coastal plain. The site is generally identified with Tell Jerisheh near the mouth of the Yarkon River in modern Tel Aviv.
