A Judean town whose 156 sons returned from Babylonian exile in the first caravan under Zerubbabel
JudeaMagbish appears once in Scripture in the catalog of Judean returnees from Babylonian exile listed in Ezra 2: "The children of Magbish, an hundred fifty and six" (Ezra 2:30). Like many entries in the Ezra-Nehemiah lists, the "sons of Magbish" likely refers to the descendants of the town's pre-exile inhabitants who returned in the first caravan under Zerubbabel and the high priest Jeshua around 538 BCE. The exact location of Magbish is unknown but is presumed to lie in the southern Judean hill country or Shephelah, since the surrounding entries (Bethel and Ai, Nebo, Elam, Harim) name nearby Judean settlements.
