A Benjaminite town in Joshuas eastern allotment and a Calebite settlement in the Chroniclers genealogy
BenjaminRekem appears in two distinct biblical contexts. First as a town in the eastern district of Benjamin's tribal allotment: "And Beeroth, and Mizpeh, and Chephirah, and Mozah, And Rekem, and Irpeel, and Taralah, And Zelah, Eleph, and Jebusi, which is Jerusalem" (Joshua 18:25-28). Second as an eponymous Calebite descendant in the Chronicler's genealogy: "The sons of Hebron; Korah, and Tappuah, and Rekem, and Shema" (1 Chronicles 2:43). The Benjaminite Rekem lay in the central highlands between Mizpeh and Jerusalem; the Calebite Rekem named a settlement in the southern Judean hill country around Hebron. The exact location of either remains unidentified.
