Cyprus's eastern port — Paul and Barnabas's first missionary stop on their first journey
CyprusHistorically Verified
Ancient site at modern Famagusta in northern Cyprus. Preserves a Roman-era gymnasium, theatre, agora, and one of the largest Byzantine basilicas in the eastern Mediterranean.
The largest city on the eastern coast of Cyprus, and Paul and Barnabas's first stop on their first missionary journey. After being sent out from Antioch, they sailed to Cyprus and arrived at Salamis, where "they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews" with John Mark as their assistant (Acts 13:5). From Salamis they crossed the entire island west to Paphos.
