7 days to grieve with hope
Grief is devastating and the Bible never pretends otherwise. These 7 chapters sit beside you in the loss, give permission to mourn fully, and point toward a hope that doesn't erase the pain but outlasts it.
Start Reading — Day 1: Jesus WeptReady when you are.
Jesus arrives at Lazarus's funeral four days late. Martha confronts Him. Mary is devastated. And Jesus — the Son of God with power over death — stands there and weeps. Grief is not weakness. God Himself entered it.
Reflect
Jesus wept even though He was about to raise Lazarus. What does that reveal about the nature of grief?
Martha said 'if you had been here, this wouldn't have happened.' Have you ever been that candid with God?
Paul tells the Thessalonians: you don't grieve like those who have no hope. He isn't saying don't grieve — he's saying grieve with the resurrection as your foundation.
Revelation 21 reveals the conclusion: God wipes every tear, death is abolished, and pain ceases forever. This isn't escapism — it's the destination that gives the journey meaning.
Paul opens this letter naming God 'the God of all comfort.' God comforts you in your suffering so you can eventually comfort others walking the same path. Your grief is not wasted.
In the Beatitudes, Jesus declares that those who mourn are blessed — because they will be comforted. Not might be. Will be. Grief is not the final word in the sentence.
Jesus tells His disciples: do not let your hearts be troubled. He is going to prepare a place for them. Reunion is promised. Separation is not the final chapter.
Psalm 23 does not promise you will bypass the valley of the shadow of death. It promises God walks through it alongside you. His presence, His provision, His comfort — even here.
