6 days of honest reflection on commitment
Marriage is the most discussed and least understood relationship in contemporary culture. These 6 chapters move past idealized portrayals to reveal what God actually designed — and it is far richer than any romantic narrative.
Start Reading — Day 1: The Original DesignReady when you are.
Before the fall, before cultural debates, before any modern expectations — God established marriage. One man and one woman, leaving their families of origin to become one unified whole. This is where the story begins.
Reflect
God declared 'it is not good for man to be alone.' What does that reveal about how God views human connection?
What does 'the two shall become one flesh' mean to you in practical, daily terms?
Ephesians 5 is the most debated marriage passage in Scripture. But the opening instruction is often overlooked: 'submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.' The entire passage is framed by mutual sacrifice, not hierarchy.
The passage read at countless weddings is actually a description of seemingly impossible love — patient, kind, free from jealousy, keeping no record of wrongs. Paul wrote this to a fractured community, not a couple at an altar.
Paul instructs the Colossians to clothe themselves in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience — then adds 'forgive as the Lord forgave you.' Marriage is this chapter practiced daily.
Peter addresses husbands and wives about the practice of living together with understanding and mutual respect. It is not dramatic counsel — it is the daily, quiet, essential work of honoring another person.
Song of Solomon concludes with one of Scripture's most powerful declarations: 'love is as strong as death... many waters cannot quench it.' This is the aspiration. This is what God intended love to embody.
