📢 Chapter 6 — Money Isn't the Main Quest 💰

is closing out his letter to , his young mentee running the church in . And he's not ending on small talk — he's hitting the topics that will make or break ministry. False teachers chasing clout, the trap of wealth, and what it really looks like to stay faithful when everything around you is pulling you off course.

This chapter is at his most urgent. He's not just giving advice — he's charging to hold the line. Every word here carries the weight of someone who knows the stakes are eternal.

Honor in Every Situation 🤝

starts with a word for believers who were servants in the Roman world — people living under authority they didn't choose:

"If you're under someone's authority, treat them with full honor — so that God's name and the teaching don't get dragged. And if your boss is a believer? Don't slack off just because you're brothers in . Actually serve them better, because the person benefiting from your work is family. Teach this. Push this."

The principle here is bigger than first-century labor. is saying your work ethic is a witness. How you show up when someone else is in charge reflects on God. Your integrity at work is part of your testimony. 💯

False Teachers Are Just Clout Chasers 🚩

Now goes after the people who were causing the real problems in — teachers who had gone off-script:

"If anyone teaches something different and doesn't line up with the sound words of our Lord and teaching that leads to godliness — that person is inflated with conceit and understands nothing. They have this unhealthy obsession with controversy and arguing about words. And what does that produce? Envy, division, slander, suspicion, and constant friction between people whose minds are corrupted and who've lost the truth. They think godliness is a way to get rich."

is describing people who use religion as a platform. They don't actually care about the truth — they care about the engagement. Arguments, controversy, hot takes — it's all content to them. And the result is always the same: division and destruction. If someone's "ministry" is mostly drama, that's sus. 🧠

The Real Flex Is Contentment 🏆

After calling out the fake teachers, drops one of the most quoted passages in the entire Bible:

"But godliness with contentment — that's the real gain. We brought nothing into this world, and we're taking nothing out. If we have food and clothing, we can be content with that.

But people who are desperate to be rich fall into temptation, into a trap, into all kinds of senseless and destructive desires that drag them into ruin and destruction. Because the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people chased it so hard they wandered away from the entirely and stabbed themselves with all kinds of pain."

This isn't "money is evil." Read it again — it's the love of money. The obsession. The idea that more wealth equals more security, more happiness, more identity. has seen people walk away from the faith because they couldn't stop chasing the bag. Contentment isn't settling — it's being so grounded in what God provides that no amount of wealth or lack of it controls you. ✨

Fight the Good Fight 🥊

Now turns directly to and switches from warning to commission. This is personal:

"But YOU, man of God — run from all that. Chase , godliness, , love, endurance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the . Grab hold of the you were called to — the same life you confessed in front of all those witnesses.

I'm charging you — in the presence of God, who gives life to everything, and , who made the good confession before keep the commandment unstained and above reproach until our Lord appears."

Then breaks into worship, because he can't help himself:

"He will reveal Himself at the right time — He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen."

This is fire. tells to run FROM the money trap and run TOWARD . It's not passive — it's a fight. And the reason can fight is because the God behind him is the King above every king, the Lord above every lord, dwelling in light so brilliant no one can even approach it. That's who's got your back. 👑

Instructions for the Rich 💎

isn't done with the money talk. He's got a specific word for people who already have wealth:

"Tell the rich in this present age not to be arrogant, and not to put their hope in something as unstable as wealth — but in God, who generously provides us with everything to enjoy. Tell them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share. That way they're storing up treasure as a solid foundation for the future, so they can grab hold of what is truly life."

doesn't say "being rich is a sin." He says don't let it make you arrogant, and don't let it become your security. Wealth is a tool, not an identity. The move is to be just as generous with your resources as God has been with you. That's where the real investment is — not your portfolio, but your foundation.

Then closes with one final, urgent appeal:

"Oh guard what's been entrusted to you. Avoid the pointless noise and contradictions of what people falsely call 'knowledge.' Some people bought into it and completely swerved from the . be with you."

That's the whole letter in one sentence. Guard the deposit. The has been handed to you — protect it from the people who want to twist it, water it down, or use it for personal gain. Stay locked in. No cap. 🫶
