📢 Chapter 9 — Jehu Just Went Full Send ⚔️

Things were about to change violently in Israel. was dead, but his corrupt dynasty was still running the show through his son Joram. was still alive, still pulling strings. And God had been patient — but the clock had run out.

was about to set the whole thing in motion with one secret mission. What followed was one of the most intense, fast-paced chapters in the entire Old Testament — a coup, a chariot chase, two dead kings, and the brutal end of the most queen in . Buckle up.

The Secret Anointing 🫣

Elisha called one of the young and gave him a very specific — and very sketchy-sounding — assignment:

"Tuck in your robes, grab this flask of oil, and head straight to Ramoth-gilead. When you get there, find a military commander named Jehu son of Jehoshaphat son of Nimshi. Pull him away from his crew into a private room, pour this oil on his head, and tell him: 'The Lord says: I anoint you king over Israel.' Then open the door and run. Don't linger."

That's it. Pour oil. Deliver the message. Sprint out the door. No Q&A. No explanation. Elisha treated this like a covert op because that's exactly what it was — the start of a God-ordained regime change. ⚡

Jehu Gets the Download 🏺

The young prophet did exactly what Elisha said. He rolled up to Ramoth-gilead and found the army commanders sitting in a meeting. He walked in and said:

"I have a message for you, commander."

Jehu looked around like:

"Which one of us?"

"You."

So Jehu got up and went inside with him. The young man poured the oil on Jehu's head and delivered the full word from God:

"This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I anoint you king over the Lord's people, over Israel. You will destroy the house of Ahab your master. I'm avenging the blood of my servants the Prophets — and the blood of ALL my servants — that Jezebel shed. Ahab's entire family line is getting cut off. Every male, slave or free. His house will end up like Jeroboam's house and like Baasha's house. And the dogs will eat Jezebel in the territory of Jezreel. No one will bury her."

Then the young prophet opened the door and literally ran. No cap, that's exactly what Elisha told him to do. The message was delivered. God's had been pronounced. Now it was on Jehu to execute it.

The Commanders Go All In 🎺

Jehu walked back out to the other commanders, and they immediately clocked that something just happened:

"Everything good? What did that unhinged guy want with you?"

Jehu tried to brush it off:

"You know how those guys are. You know the type."

"Nah, that's cap. Tell us what he actually said."

So Jehu told them straight:

"He said to me, 'Thus says the Lord: I anoint you king over Israel.'"

And their response was instant. Every single one of them grabbed their cloaks and threw them down on the steps under Jehu like a red carpet. They blew the trumpet and shouted: "Jehu is king!" No debate, no committee meeting, no vote. These commanders were done with Ahab's dynasty, and the second they heard God had chosen Jehu, they were locked in. 👑

The Chariot Ride of Doom 🏇

(Quick context: Joram, Ahab's son and current king of Israel, had been fighting Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth-gilead. He'd gotten wounded in battle and went back to Jezreel to recover. Ahaziah, king of , had come down to visit him. So both kings were in Jezreel at the same time.)

Jehu locked it down immediately:

"If you're really with me on this, nobody leaves this city. No one rides ahead to warn Jezreel."

Then Jehu mounted his chariot and drove straight toward Jezreel. Two kings. One city. No warning. Jehu was coming, and he was coming fast.

"He Drives Like a Maniac" 🚨

Back in Jezreel, the watchman on the tower spotted Jehu's company approaching:

"I see a group of riders coming."

Joram sent a horseman out to meet them:

"The king wants to know — is it peace?"

Jehu's response was cold:

"What do you know about peace? Fall in behind me."

The watchman reported: the messenger reached them but isn't coming back. So Joram sent a second horseman. Same question. Same answer from Jehu:

"What do you know about peace? Fall in behind me."

The watchman reported again:

"He reached them, but he's not coming back either. And the driving — it's like the driving of Jehu son of Nimshi. He drives like he's unhinged."

Everybody knew Jehu's reputation. The man drove his chariot the way he did everything — furiously. And right now, that fury was headed straight for the king. 💀

Joram Gets Caught at the Worst Possible Location 🏹

Joram said, "Get my chariot ready." And he rode out to meet Jehu personally — with Ahaziah king of Judah riding alongside him. They met Jehu at the property of Naboth the Jezreelite.

(Quick context: This is the same vineyard that Ahab and Jezebel stole after having Naboth murdered. Of ALL the places for this confrontation to happen — God's timing is surgical.)

Joram called out:

"Is it peace, Jehu?"

Jehu's answer was devastating:

"What peace can there be as long as the idolatry and sorcery of your mother Jezebel are everywhere?"

Joram immediately turned his chariot and fled, shouting to Ahaziah:

"Treachery! It's a trap, Ahaziah!"

But it was too late. Jehu drew his bow with everything he had and shot Joram right between the shoulders. The arrow went through his heart. Joram collapsed in his chariot.

Jehu turned to his aide Bidkar:

"Pick him up and throw his body on Naboth's field. Remember — you and I were both there, riding behind Ahab his father, when the Lord declared this judgment: 'I saw the blood of Naboth and his sons, and I WILL repay you on this very ground.' Throw him on the plot. This is the word of the Lord being fulfilled."

The location wasn't a coincidence. God's has a long memory, and it landed exactly where He said it would. ⚖️

Ahaziah Doesn't Make It Either 💀

When Ahaziah king of Judah saw what happened to Joram, he bolted toward Beth-haggan. But Jehu wasn't done:

"Get him too."

They shot Ahaziah in his chariot at the ascent of Gur near Ibleam. He managed to flee to Megiddo, but he died there. His servants carried his body back to and buried him with his ancestors in the city of .

(Quick context: Ahaziah had begun to reign over Judah in the eleventh year of Joram. His alliance with Ahab's house cost him everything — a reminder that who you align yourself with matters.)

Jezebel's Last Stand 💅

When Jehu arrived in Jezreel, Jezebel heard he was coming. And what did she do? She painted her eyes, fixed her hair, and looked out the window. Full glam. She wasn't running. She wasn't begging. She was going out on her own terms — dripping with defiance.

As Jehu entered the gate, she called down:

"Is it peace, you Zimri — murderer of your master?"

(Quick context: Zimri was a previous king who assassinated his master and only lasted seven days on the throne. Jezebel was basically saying: "You think this ends well for you? History says otherwise." Even facing death, she was still talking trash.)

Jehu looked up at the window:

"Who is on my side? Who?"

Two or three eunuchs looked out at him.

"Throw her down."

So they threw her down. Her blood spattered on the wall and on the horses, and they trampled her. That was the end of Jezebel — the queen who had hunted God's Prophets, murdered Naboth, and dragged all of Israel into worship. Her fall was as violent as her reign.

The Prophecy Fulfilled to the Letter 📖

After everything, Jehu went inside and ate a meal. Then, almost as an afterthought, he said:

"Go deal with that cursed woman. Bury her — she is a king's daughter, after all."

But when they went to bury Jezebel, they found almost nothing left. Just her skull, her feet, and the palms of her hands. The dogs had eaten the rest.

When they came back and told Jehu, he didn't flinch:

"This is the word of the Lord, spoken through his servant Elijah: 'In the territory of Jezreel, the dogs will eat the flesh of Jezebel, and her corpse will be like dung on the field in Jezreel — so that no one can say, This is Jezebel's grave.'"

Every word God spoke through Elijah years earlier came true down to the detail. No monument. No memorial. No legacy. The woman who terrorized an entire nation was erased from the earth — exactly as God said she would be. His doesn't miss. 💯
