John

The Late Night DM That Changed Everything

John 3 — Nicodemus, 3:16, and John the Baptist

📢 Nicodemus Slides Into Jesus' DMs 🕐

There was this guy named Nicodemus — a Pharisee, which basically means he was a top-tier religious leader. Think: verified account, tons of followers, respected by everyone in the faith community. He had the credentials, the title, the whole thing.

But here's the plot twist: he came to Jesus at night. Lowkey. On the DL. Because he couldn't be seen publicly hanging with Jesus — that would've been career suicide in his circles. But he was curious. Something about Jesus was different and he knew it.

So Nicodemus pulls up and says:

"Rabbi, we know you're from God. Nobody could do the things you're doing unless God was with them. The evidence is undeniable."

Born Again (Not What You Think) 🔄

Jesus didn't even acknowledge the compliment. He just went straight to the point:

"I'm telling you the truth — unless someone is born again, they can't even see God's kingdom."

Nicodemus was confused. Like genuinely confused.

"Born again?? How does that work? I can't crawl back inside my mom. That's not how biology works."

Jesus said:

"Listen. Unless someone is born of water AND the Spirit, they can't enter God's kingdom. What's born from flesh is flesh. What's born from Spirit is spirit. Don't be shocked that I said you need to be born again.

The wind blows wherever it wants. You hear it, but you don't know where it comes from or where it's going. That's what it's like with everyone born of the Spirit. You can't control it. You can't predict it. You just experience it."

Nicodemus: "...How is this possible?"

Jesus hit him with:

"You're literally a teacher of Israel and you don't understand this? We're talking about things we KNOW and testifying about things we've SEEN, and y'all still won't accept it. If I tell you about earthly things and you don't believe, how are you gonna handle heavenly things?"

The Snake on a Pole Reference 🐍

Then Jesus dropped this callback that Nicodemus would've immediately recognized:

"Just like Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, the Son of Man must be lifted up — so that everyone who believes in Him will have eternal life."

(Quick context: back in the Old Testament, God's people were getting bitten by snakes and dying. God told Moses to put a bronze snake on a pole — anyone who looked at it was healed. Jesus was saying: I'm that. But for everything.)

The Verse. THE Verse. 🏆

And then. THEN. Jesus said the most famous words ever spoken. The verse that shows up on signs at every sporting event. The one your grandma has on a pillow. The one that sums up the entire gospel in one sentence:

🔥 "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." 🔥

Read that again. Slowly.

God SO loved. Not kinda loved. Not conditionally loved. Not "loved you when you had it together" loved. SO loved. The deepest, most reckless, no-strings-attached love imaginable.

The world. Not just the religious people. Not just the good people. THE WORLD. Everyone. You. The person you can't stand. The person who ghosted you. Everyone.

That He GAVE. Love isn't just a feeling — it's an action. God didn't just say "I love you" from a distance. He gave the most valuable thing He had.

His one and only Son. Not an angel. Not a prophet. His Son. That's the ultimate sacrifice.

That WHOEVER believes. Not whoever is perfect. Not whoever has it all figured out. Whoever. That's an open invitation with no velvet rope.

Shall not perish but have eternal life. The alternative to believing isn't just "missing out." It's perishing. But the promise? ETERNAL life. Not temporary. Not conditional. Eternal. Forever. No expiration date.

That's not just a verse. That's the whole gospel in 26 words. 💯

God Didn't Come to Cancel You ❌➡️✅

"God didn't send His Son into the world to condemn the world. He sent Him to save it."

Read that again if you grew up thinking God was just waiting for you to mess up so He could punish you. That's not the vibe. That was never the vibe.

"Whoever believes in Him isn't condemned. But whoever doesn't believe is condemned already — not because God is harsh, but because they rejected the light that was right in front of them."

The Light vs. Dark Situation 💡🌑

"Here's the verdict: Light came into the world, but people loved the darkness instead because their actions were sketchy. Everyone doing wrong hates the light and avoids it — because the light exposes everything.

But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so it's clear that what they're doing comes from God."

Translation: Some people avoid Jesus not because they don't believe He's real, but because they know the light would expose what they don't want to deal with. It's not an intelligence problem. It's a willingness problem.

📢 John the Baptist — The Ultimate Hype Man 🎤

After this, Jesus and His disciples went out to the Judean countryside, baptizing people. Meanwhile, John the Baptist was also baptizing nearby at a place called Aenon, because there was a lot of water there. (John wasn't arrested yet — that drama was coming.)

Some of John's followers got heated and came to him like:

"Rabbi! That guy who was with you on the other side of the Jordan — the one you testified about — He's baptizing now and EVERYONE is going to Him instead of you."

Basically: "He's stealing your audience. Your numbers are down. Aren't you mad?"

John's Response Is Elite 👑

John wasn't even slightly bothered. He said:

"A person can only receive what's given to them from heaven. You yourselves can confirm — I said I'm NOT the Messiah. I'm just the one sent ahead of Him.

Think of it like a wedding. The groom gets the bride. The best man? He just stands there and is HAPPY to hear the groom's voice. That's my joy, and it's now complete.

He must become greater. I must become less. That's it. That's the whole thing."

No ego. No jealousy. No "but I was here first." John understood his role and was genuinely hype about it. That's the most secure thing anyone has ever said.

The One From Heaven 🌌

"The one who comes from above is above everything. The one who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks from an earthly perspective. The one who comes from heaven is above all.

He testifies about what He's seen and heard, but nobody accepts His testimony. Whoever DOES accept it has certified that God is truthful.

The one God sent speaks God's words — because God gives the Spirit without limit. The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in His hands.

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. Whoever rejects the Son will not see life — God's wrath remains on them."
