Eyes Up, We're Waiting on God

Psalms 123 — A prayer for mercy when the haters won''t stop

1 min read

📢 Chapter 123 — Eyes Up 🙏

This is one of the Songs of Ascent — the playlist pilgrims sang on the road up to . Psalm 123 is short, only four verses, but it hits like a late-night prayer when you've been carrying everyone's disrespect for way too long.

No fancy theology here. Just someone looking up to God and saying, "We need . Now."

Looking Up to the Throne 👀

The psalm opens with the simplest act of there is — lifting your eyes toward .

"I'm looking up to You — the One enthroned above everything. The way a servant watches their master's hand, waiting for the signal — the way an employee watches the boss, ready for the nod — that's how our eyes stay locked on the Lord our God. We're not looking away until He shows us mercy."

There's something deeply raw about this image. It's not casual. It's not "hey God, whenever You get a chance." It's focused, intentional, unbroken attention — eyes fixed on God until He moves. No cap, that kind of patience takes more strength than most people realize. 🙏

Have Mercy — We're Done 😤

Now comes the ask, and it's not polite small talk. It's desperate. The word "mercy" gets repeated because once wasn't enough.

"Have mercy on us, Lord — have mercy on us. We've had MORE than enough of being looked down on. Our souls are exhausted from the mockery of people who have it easy, the contempt of the proud who think they're better than us."

This is the prayer for anyone who's been disrespected by people who've never struggled. The "those who are at ease" line? That's the people coasting through life while judging everyone who's grinding. The proud ones throwing shade from their comfortable seats. The psalmist isn't asking God to destroy them — just to see what His people are going through and come through with mercy. That distinction matters. 💯
