God Pulls Up and Everybody Scatters

Psalms 68 — God rises, enemies scatter, and every nation bows

6 min read

📢 Chapter 68 — God Pulls Up ⚡

This psalm is at his most hype — a full victory anthem celebrating God as the one who shows up, scatters everything that opposes Him, and then leads a triumphal parade straight into the . It's part war cry, part worship set, part history lesson, and ALL praise.

From start to finish, this is a reminder that when God rises, nothing and no one can stand. Not enemies, not mountains, not entire kingdoms. And the same God who commands angel armies? He's also the one who takes care of orphans and widows. That's the kind of King we're talking about. 👑

When God Stands Up, It's Over 💨

The psalm opens with a declaration that goes unbelievably hard:

When God rises, His enemies scatter like smoke in the wind. The wicked melt away like wax thrown into fire — they literally cannot exist in His presence. But the ? They celebrate. They're jubilant. They're living their best life because they're on the right side.

Two reactions, same God. If you're against Him, it's terrifying. If you're with Him, it's the greatest thing ever. No in-between. ⚡

Father of the Fatherless 🫶

David calls everyone to sing to God — the one who rides through the deserts like it's nothing. His name is the LORD. Exult before Him.

And then comes one of the most beautiful descriptions of God in all of : He is the of the fatherless and the protector of widows. God in His holy dwelling doesn't just rule — He cares. He settles the lonely into families. He leads prisoners out into prosperity. But those who rebel? They end up in a dry, parched wasteland.

This is the heart of God — power AND compassion. He's not just strong enough to fight for you; He actually wants to. The same God who makes armies flee also makes sure the forgotten have a home. 🫶

The Wilderness March 🌧️

David looks back at moment — when God marched out before His people through the wilderness:

The earth shook. The poured rain. The God of Sinai showed up, and all of creation responded. He sent rain in abundance, restoring His people when they were exhausted. His flock found a place to live, and in His goodness, He provided for the needy.

God didn't just rescue Israel from and say "good luck." He walked with them, fed them, refreshed them, and gave them a home. That's God handling the details when you can't.

The Women Announce the W 🏆

The Lord gives the word, and the women who spread the news are a massive crowd:

"The kings and their armies — they flee, they flee!"

The women back home divide the spoil. Even though the men were chilling among the sheepfolds, the victory came through anyway — like finding a dove with wings of silver and feathers shimmering with gold. When the Almighty scatters kings, it's like fresh snow falling on Zalmon — pure, total, beautiful victory.

God fights battles where His people don't even have to sweat. The W was so decisive that the celebration started before the soldiers got home. 💯

The Mountain God Chose 🏔️

David turns to the mountains and basically says: Why are you jealous?

The mountain of Bashan — tall, impressive, many-peaked — looks with envy at the mount God chose for His dwelling. But God didn't pick the biggest or most impressive mountain. He picked the one He wanted. And where God dwells, that's where the glory is.

The chariots of God number twenty thousand — thousands upon thousands. The Lord is among them. Sinai's presence is now in the sanctuary. He ascended on high, leading captives in His train, receiving gifts from people — even the rebellious ones — so that the Lord God may dwell there.

God doesn't need the flashiest platform. He makes wherever He shows up the most important place in existence. 👑

Daily Salvation, Real Talk 🙏

Now David gets personal:

Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up — God is our . Our God is a God of salvation, and to the Lord belong deliverances from death itself. He doesn't just save once. He saves daily. He carries you.

But for His enemies? Different energy entirely. God strikes the heads of those who walk in guilty rebellion. The Lord declares He will bring them back from Bashan, from the depths of the sea — nowhere is far enough to hide. The imagery here is raw and intense — this is language, and it's meant to land heavy.

God's for His people and His against are not contradictions — they're two sides of the same love. He protects what He cherishes by dealing with what threatens it. No cap.

The Victory Parade 🎶

Now the scene shifts to a full processional — God's triumphal entry into the sanctuary:

The procession is seen — the procession of God, the King, into the sanctuary. Singers in front, musicians in the back, and in between them, young women playing tambourines. The whole thing is fire.

"Bless God in the great congregation, the Lord, O you who are of Israel's fountain!"

— the smallest tribe — leads the way. Then the princes of in full force, followed by the princes of Zebulun and Naphtali. Every tribe represented, every voice lifted. This is what unified looks like — the whole family showing up. 🎤

Nations Pulling Up to Worship 🌍

David calls on God to flex His power — the same power that's already delivered them:

Summon your strength, O God — the power by which you've worked for us. Because of your Temple at , kings will bring gifts to you. David prays for God to rebuke the aggressive nations — the "beasts in the reeds," the bulls, the war-hungry peoples. Scatter them. Trample those who are obsessed with tribute and conflict.

And then this goated moment: nobles from Egypt will come. Cush will stretch out her hands to God. Nations that once opposed Israel will one day bow in worship. The reach of God's glory isn't limited to one people — it's global. ✨

The Final Call — Every Kingdom, Sing 🔥

David closes with the widest possible invitation:

O kingdoms of the earth — ALL of you — sing to God. Sing praises to the Lord. He rides in the heavens, the ancient heavens. He sends out His voice — His mighty, powerful voice. Ascribe power to God, whose majesty covers Israel and whose strength fills the skies.

Awesome is God from His sanctuary. The God of Israel — He is the one who gives power and strength to His people.

Blessed be God. Period. 🎤⬇️
