📢 Chapter 3 — Three Churches Got Put on Notice 💌
isn't done. The risen King who walks among the churches still has three more letters to deliver, and each one hits different. Through on the island of , He's sending direct messages to Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea — and nobody is getting spared from honest truth.
What makes these letters hit so hard is that knows everything. He sees through the hype, past the reputation, straight into the reality. One church looks alive but is dead inside. Another is tiny and overlooked but has His full approval. And one is so comfortable it doesn't realize how bad things actually are. Three churches, three very different problems, one who loves them all enough to keep it real.
Wake Up, Sardis — You're Not Fooling Anyone 💀
First up: the church in Sardis. And did not come to be nice about it.
🔥 "I know your works. You've got this whole reputation for being alive — but the truth is, you're dead. Wake up. Strengthen whatever you have left before it dies too, because I've looked at your works and they are not complete in the sight of my God.
🔥 Remember what you received and heard. Hold onto it. . Because if you don't wake up, I'm coming like a thief — and you won't know when.
🔥 But there are still a few people in Sardis who haven't stained their clothes. They will walk with me in white, because they are worthy. Whoever conquers will be dressed in white garments, and I will never erase their name from the book of life. I will confess their name before my Father and before His .
🔥 If you have ears, hear what the says to the churches."
This is the spiritual equivalent of getting caught in 4K. Sardis had clout — everyone thought they were thriving. But saw past the engagement metrics to the reality underneath: spiritually flatlined. The call here is urgent: wake up, remember the you first received, and before it's too late. But even in the warning, there's a promise — those who stay faithful get white garments and their name permanently secured in the book of life. ✨
Philadelphia — Small But Locked In 🔑
Next letter goes to Philadelphia, and this one is all encouragement. No correction. No rebuke. Just showing up for a church that stayed loyal when everything was stacked against them.
🔥 "These are the words of the holy one, the true one, who holds the key of — who opens and no one can shut, who shuts and no one can open.
🔥 I know your works. I've placed an open door in front of you that nobody can close. I know you don't have a lot of power. But you've kept my word and you haven't denied my name.
🔥 Those from the of who claim to be Jews but aren't — who are lying — I will make them come and bow at your feet. And they will know that I have loved you.
🔥 Because you've been patient and endured, I will keep you from the hour of trial that's coming on the whole world. I am coming soon. Hold fast to what you have so that no one takes your crown.
🔥 Whoever conquers — I will make them a pillar in the of my God. They will never leave it. I will write on them the name of my God, the name of the city of my God — the new coming down from heaven — and my own new name.
🔥 If you have ears, hear what the says to the churches."
Philadelphia was small. No major influence, no massive following, no impressive stats. But they had something that mattered more than all of that: faithfulness. They didn't fold under pressure and they didn't deny name. And for that, He opened a door for them that no person, no institution, no opposition could shut. That's the ultimate W — not having power, but having the one who holds the keys on your side. 👑
Laodicea — The Lukewarm Church Gets Cooked 🥶🔥
And then there's Laodicea. This one is lowkey the most uncomfortable letter of all seven, because it's the one that hits closest to home for a lot of people.
🔥 "These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation.
🔥 I know your works. You're neither cold nor hot. I wish you were one or the other. But because you're lukewarm — not hot, not cold — I'm about to spit you out of my mouth.
🔥 You say, 'I'm rich, I've made it, I don't need anything.' But you don't realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked.
🔥 Here's my counsel: buy from me gold refined by fire so you can actually be rich. Buy white garments so you can be clothed and the shame of your nakedness won't be exposed. Buy salve for your eyes so you can actually see.
🔥 Everyone I love, I correct and discipline. So get serious and ."
Laodicea was a wealthy city — known for banking, textiles, and a famous eye medicine. So when told them they were actually poor, naked, and blind, He was using their own flex against them. They were so comfortable that they'd confused prosperity with spiritual health. They didn't need anything... except they needed everything. The correction is firm, but that line — "everyone I love, I correct" — makes clear this isn't rejection. It's a Father who refuses to let His kids sleepwalk into disaster. 💯
The Most Famous Door Knock Ever 🚪
And then drops one of the most iconic verses in all of Scripture:
🔥 "Look — I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with them, and they with me.
🔥 Whoever conquers, I will give them the right to sit with me on my throne — just as I conquered and sat down with my Father on His throne.
🔥 If you have ears, hear what the says to the churches."
This verse gets quoted a lot for evangelism — and it absolutely applies there — but in context, is talking to people who are already in the church. He's standing outside a church door, knocking. The King of everything is not kicking the door down. He's not forcing His way in. He's knocking and waiting. The invitation is personal — "if anyone" — not just the whole group, but any individual willing to hear His voice and respond. And the promise? Not just presence, but fellowship. A meal together. A throne shared. That's not a distant God issuing commands. That's a God who wants to sit across from you and be with you. 🫶
