Cambyses II Conquers Egypt

Cambyses II, son of Cyrus the Great, invaded Egypt in 525 BCE and defeated Pharaoh Psamtik III at the Battle of Pelusium. Egypt became a Persian province, which is wild when you think about how powerful Egypt had been for literally thousands of years. Ancient sources say he was unhinged, but that might just be Egyptian propaganda. The Elephantine papyri confirm a Jewish military colony in Egypt during this period.
