Ur-Nammu wrote the first law code around 2100 BCE — 300 years before Hammurabi was even born
Everyone thinks Hammurabi invented written law but Ur-Nammu was doing it first. King of Ur's Third Dynasty, he codified laws covering everything from murder to marriage to runaway slaves. Used fines instead of 'eye for an eye' — lowkey more progressive than Hammurabi's code that came later. This is the oldest surviving legal code on earth.
