Rise of the Hittite Empire

Operating out of their capital Hattusa in modern Turkey, the Hittites became a Bronze Age superpower with advanced iron-working technology and military tactics including chariot warfare. They conquered Babylon, rivaled Egypt, and their diplomatic letters show up all over the ancient Near East. When the Bible mentions Hittites in Canaan, these are the people — or at least their cultural descendants.
