Foreign rulers called the Hyksos pulled up on Egypt with chariots and said 'this is ours now' — and Egypt couldn't do anything about it.
Around 1650 BCE, a Semitic people called the Hyksos rolled into the Nile Delta with horse-drawn chariots, compound bows, and zero chill. They took over Lower Egypt and set up their own dynasty at Avaris. Some scholars think this is exactly when a Semitic dude like Joseph could've risen to power in Egypt — foreign rulers would've been way more open to promoting one of their own. The connection hits different when you think about it.
