Moab's King Mesha made a whole stone bragging about breaking free from Israel — and it name-drops the house of David AND Yahweh. Receipts from the other side.
The Mesha Stele, dating to around 840 BCE, is a basalt stone inscription where Moabite King Mesha brags about defeating Israel and reclaiming territory. It mentions 'the house of David,' 'Israel,' King Omri, and even Yahweh by name — making it one of the most important extra-biblical sources confirming Old Testament history. The events parallel 2 Kings 3. Discovered in 1868, it was broken by locals before scholars could secure it, but enough survives to read the flex.
