Sennacherib rolled up on Jerusalem with a massive army in 701 BCE — but somehow never took it. Both the Bible and Assyrian records confirm the siege, just not why he bounced.
In 701 BCE, Assyrian king Sennacherib besieged Jerusalem during King Hezekiah's reign. The Taylor Prism (Sennacherib's own record) says he shut Hezekiah up 'like a bird in a cage' and took 46 fortified cities — but notably never claims to have captured Jerusalem. The Bible says God sent an angel that destroyed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers overnight. Whatever happened, the fact that Sennacherib's own flex inscription admits he didn't take the city hits different.
