A short, formal statement of core Christian belief — used to teach, worship, and mark out orthodoxy
The earliest creeds appear inside the New Testament itself (1 Corinthians 15:3-5, Philippians 2:6-11). Later creeds — the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed (325 AD) — distilled the church's confession in response to heresies that twisted who Jesus is. Reciting them is not mere ritual; it is publicly aligning yourself with two thousand years of believers who confessed the same things.
