People of Gilead — the region east of the Jordan known for its rugged terrain and fierce warriors

Definition

Inhabitants of the Transjordan region of Gilead. Jephthah was the most famous Gileadite judge. They famously used the "Shibboleth" test to identify fleeing Ephraimites (Judges 12:5-6).
