Mysian seaport whose ships hugged the Asian coast — Paul's first vessel sailing west to Rome
Asia MinorHistorically Verified
Modern Edremit on the Turkish Aegean coast. The ancient site has been continuously occupied, and remains of the Roman-period harbor have been documented.
A seaport city in Mysia on the northwestern coast of Asia Minor, opposite the island of Lesbos. Paul's prisoner-transport ship sailing from Caesarea to Italy was an Adramyttian vessel that put in at the ports along the Asian coast — Sidon, Myra, and others — before Paul transferred to an Alexandrian grain ship for the journey across to Italy (Acts 27:2). The brief mention preserves a vivid detail of Mediterranean shipping in the 1st century.
