A Benjaminite town resettled by returning exiles in the post-exile period
BenjaminAnaniah ("Yahweh has answered") was a Benjaminite town listed in Nehemiah 11:32 among the western settlements where returning Judean exiles reestablished communities: "At Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah, Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim, Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat, Lod, and Ono." The site is identified with the modern village of el-Eizariya — the Arabic name for Bethany, the New Testament village east of Jerusalem where Lazarus, Mary, and Martha lived. The continuity from Old Testament Ananiah through Aramaic Beth-Anyah (Bethany) preserves a single location across the entire biblical period.
