The Benjaminite battlefield where Israel rallied against the tribe of Benjamin in the war over the Levites concubine
BenjaminBaal-tamar ("lord of the palm tree") was the rallying point where Israel's tribal army drew up in battle array against Benjamin in the civil war over the Levite's concubine at Gibeah (Judges 20:33). After two days of devastating defeats, the Israelite coalition learned to ambush Benjamin from behind Gibeah, drawing the Benjaminite army out in pursuit before springing the trap that destroyed the tribe down to six hundred surviving men. Baal-tamar lay just north of Gibeah in the Benjaminite highlands, probably named for a prominent palm tree that served as the meeting point.
