Benjaminite village near the Mount of Olives — site of Shimei's cursing of David
BenjaminHistorically Verified
Tentatively located along the Jericho road just east of the Mount of Olives. The references in 2 Samuel give consistent geographical clues for the site.
A village in the territory of Benjamin on the road from Jerusalem toward Jericho, just east of the Mount of Olives. When David fled Jerusalem during Absalom's revolt, Shimei of the house of Saul came out from Bahurim cursing the king and throwing stones (2 Samuel 16:5-13). David's spies Jonathan and Ahimaaz later hid in a well at Bahurim while Absalom's men hunted them (2 Samuel 17:17-21). It was also where David sent Michal back to her second husband Paltiel, whose tearful following ended at Bahurim (2 Samuel 3:16).
