The town where Judahs third son Shelah was born named in the patriarchal narrative
ShephelahChezib ("deceiving") was the Canaanite town where Judah's third son Shelah was born: "And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him" (Genesis 38:5). The town appears only in this single Genesis verse, but the precise geographic detail suggests it was a known landmark in the Judean Shephelah where Judah had settled with his Canaanite wife Shua. The site is generally identified with the modern Khirbet Achzib in the Shephelah, near Adullam — possibly the same as the Achzib of Judah's Shephelah catalog (Joshua 15:44).
