A Judean hill country town also named in Isaiahs cryptic "Burden of Dumah" oracle
Judean Hill CountryDumah was a Judean hill country town named in Joshua 15:52 in the catalog of the cities south of Hebron: "Arab, and Dumah, and Eshean." The town appears only as a place-name in the boundary list. A separate cryptic Isaian oracle in Isaiah 21:11-12 titled "The Burden of Dumah" is widely understood as an oracle against Edom (the name Dumah being a poetic substitution for Edom): "He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night?" The Judean hill country Dumah is generally identified with the modern village of ed-Daumeh about 16 km southwest of Hebron.
