Amorite city defeated by Joshua in one day — one of the five kings sentenced at Makkedah
ShephelahHistorically Verified
Two main candidate sites in the Judean lowlands — Tell Aitun and Tell el-Hesi. Late Bronze Age destruction layers at Tel Eton match the period of Joshua's conquest.
One of five Amorite city-states whose king Debir joined the coalition against Gibeon after that city made peace with Israel. Joshua defeated the coalition in a single day at Beth-horon, then pursued the kings to a cave at Makkedah where he had them executed. Eglon itself fell to Joshua's army in one day (Joshua 10:34-35). Located in the Shephelah lowlands of Judah, near Lachish.
