A coastal-plain town in the tribal inheritance of Dan named alongside Aijalon and Thimnathah
Coastal PlainElon ("oak") was one of the cities of Dan's tribal inheritance in the coastal plain corridor between Judah and the Philistines, named in Joshua 19:43: "And Elon, and Thimnathah, and Ekron." The town appears only in this single boundary list among the seventeen cities of the Danite allotment. The exact site is uncertain but lay in the inner Aijalon-Sharon corridor between Beth-shemesh and the Mediterranean. Not to be confused with Elon-beth-hanan (1 Kings 4:9) or Elon the Zebulonite (a judge of Israel, Judges 12:11-12).
