A town in Solomons second administrative district under Ben-deker in the Danite-Shephelah corridor
ShephelahElon-beth-hanan ("oak of the house of grace") was a town in Solomon's second administrative district named in 1 Kings 4:9: "The son of Dekar, in Makaz, and in Shaalbim, and Beth-shemesh, and Elon-beth-hanan." Ben-deker's district covered the inner Shephelah and Aijalon Valley corridor between the Danite frontier and the coastal plain. The town's compound name combines Elon (Joshua 19:43's Danite town) with the otherwise unattested "Beth-hanan," suggesting either a sister settlement or a renaming of the same site by the Solomonic period. The exact location is uncertain.
