A Judean hill country town in the catalog of the sixth allotment district south of Bethlehem
Judean Hill CountryEltekon ("God is steadfast") was a town in the sixth district of Judah's hill country inheritance, named in Joshua 15:59 in the catalog of six cities including Beth-anoth: "Maarath, and Beth-anoth, and Eltekon; six cities with their villages." The town appears only in this single boundary list. The exact site is uncertain but lay in the hill country south of Bethlehem and east of Hebron, in the cluster of small farming settlements that filled the rugged Judean highlands. Some scholars connect it with Khirbet ed-Deir near Bethlehem.
