Ether

Ether was a Shephelah town named in Joshua 15:42 in Judah's lowland inheritance catalog and again in Joshua 19:7 in the catalog of cities allotted to the tribe of Simeon within Judah's territory: "Ain, Remmon, and Ether, and Ashan; four cities and their villages." The double allotment reflects the gradual absorption of the Simeonites into the larger Judahite population during the early monarchy. The site is generally identified with Khirbet el-Atar in the inner Shephelah.
